For the past 10 weeks I have been very lucky to have completed a work placement as a marketing intern at HandMade Theatre. This role has involved writing blog posts, helping with social media management and contacting press. I have also had the opportunity to attend rehearsals for HandMade’s shows and write a review for Too Many Cooks at Splendour Festival, which I very much enjoyed! You can have a read of my review here.
As an English student at the University of Nottingham I feel very fortunate that the university partners with such wonderful local companies, giving students the opportunity to learn new skills and gain real work experience in a range of different fields. Although I love watching and writing about theatre, I had never worked with a theatre company so closely before, which has been a very insightful and positive experience.
Suzy and Amy have been brilliant to work with, allowing me to do things I’ve never previously tried and gain lots of valuable experience that will assist me in the future. From loading sets and reading lines to doing Instagram takeovers, my tasks have been very varied and interesting, providing me with a good look into the world of family theatre. It has been a very busy and exciting time to be part of the team, so I would like to say a massive thank you to Suzy and Amy for all their support and guidance.
Over my time with the company I have seen many changes and progressions, including the huge UK Summer 2018 Tour of their shows Too Many Cooks and Flying The Nest, and the birth of the handy HandMade van! Watching the new space develop has also been great, I’m looking forward to seeing what HandMade will do with it in the future and how they will grow even more as a company.
Thank you very much for having me!
