Today, on my first day at HandMade Theatre, I was lucky enough to sit in on a day of rehearsals for Too Many Cooks at Christmas which will be performed at both the Bonington Theatre and Mansfield Central Library. Having never witnessed any theatre devising before this was very intriguing for me and the rehearsal was epic to say the least!
The show will be full of surprises, twists and turns, and plenty of audience interaction, and you definitely won’t be short of songs to sing along and listen to! The cast are hilarious, and the props and set will really help to bring out the full craziness of the performance. There are appearances from all the old favourites (The Sweet Peas and Betty Botter to name but a few). Some of the old songs have been given a Christmas twist and some of the classic Christmas songs have been given a HandMade twist!
The day began with a quick briefing and recap of the last rehearsal, but then we were straight into devising. To be truthful, I initially thought that there might be too many cooks (!) so it might end up a bit too hectic, but everyone’s ideas were always heard and it was like watching a tennis match at some points when ideas were bouncing off each member so quickly! The ideas ended up blending together seamlessly, and the majority of the off the cuff funny moments ended up in the show (if they were PG enough!) so look forward to those and make sure to book your tickets.
